(official text)

Rules of the game

The New Petanque©

Rules of the game of The New Petanque©  are identical to that of the classic petanque rules except following:

Boules values

Each player uses three boules of three different values:

- a boule to value 1 (equal to 1 point)

- a boule to value 2 (equal to 2 points)

- a boule to value 3 (equal to 3 points)

On each of the three boules at the disposal each player, a specific marking identifies their different value. Another marking identifies the player, these markings may or may not overlap.

Example of a set of six "New Petanque ©" boules which are differentiated by 6 markings identifying the player and the value of the boule.

In triples, in each team, each of the three players has a combination of different boules value:

- player 1*:             a boule to valeur 1 and a boule to value 2,

- player 2*:             a boule to value 1 and a boule to value 3,

- player 3*:             a boule to value 2 and a boule to value 3.

* This player number is not an order to launch, which remains free within each team.

Progress of the game

At each boules launch, the player is free to choose (with or without consultation with his teammates) the boule value among those at its available.

At any time, players cannot exchange their boules, and in triples, the three players from each team keeps the same combinations of two boules to the end of each run. They can then choose a new configuration of two boules at the beginning of each new round.

In the run end, the team, which is closest to the goal, scores as many points as the accumulated value of his boules which are in better position than the first boule of opponent.

For the three versions of the game (triples, doubles and singles), a round is won by the team or the player (singles) that meets or exceeds 27 points.

Spécial cases

When two boules belonging to opposing teams are equidistant from the goal (or touches it):

The higher value boule is considered the closest. If both boules are the same values, they cancel each other: they are not deemed to be placed * and are not counted.

This applies both so to the scoring run end of the game either to determine that, during the run, which team should play. If an equal position and value occurs early in the run (only one boule of each team on the ground), it is at the team that played first to start again.

*These boules, which are not considered to placed until when they are equidistant from the goal, are kept in the game until the end of the run however. Their relative position to the goal can possibly be changed by new throws and, unless new equality, then reconsidered as they are placed.

When the goal is out and there are still boules to one team:

this team scores as many points she still holds (cumulative values boules).

Other rules

In all other cases, it is applied  the classic Petanque rules.

Rules context, technical constraints.

This rule applies in a friendly and amateur. However, more specific agreements can be established between players and, particularly in competition, within a federal framework.
